Grief Support

Couples Helping Each Other

In loving relationships, couples support each other. They listen, give encouragement and comfort each other helping to ease the stresses that build up in everyday life.

When a child dies, each parent becomes a griever. Grievers find it hard to think about someone else's feelings because their own feelings are so overwhelming.

It is very important that grieving parents plan for these differences and find ways to support each other's very personal grief journey. If you are aware about the differences, however unusual for your relationship, you will weather the storm. Parents who work through this painful time together find that their relationship has strengthened.

Attending support groups or finding someone else to talk things over with are very powerful and helpful ways to do grief work. In other words, you may very well not be able to act as each other's grief support person. Most important of all is to be patient with each other through this process.
