Geoff Clarke died suddenly on August 31 while camping in the Kootenays. Known as a tireless advocate for children, he worked for Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society, served as a school board trustee for eight years; belonged to the Powell River Curling Club; and played hockey for the River Rats and Jokers men's hockey teams. He also served in many other community groups. Over 400 people gathered last Saturday, September 11, 2004 to pay tribute to Clarke whose too brief life touched hundreds of people and whose energy animated many different organizations. Speaker after speaker described his commitment to children, his love for his family, his sense of adventure and his determination to have fun. The moving testimonials paid
tribute to an extraordinary man who will be greatly missed. The large
gathering of people from every aspect of Powell River was testimony
itself to Clarke, a man who lived what he believed and garnered the
respect and admiration of those who knew him best. Submitted by: Iris Kramer-Clarke
